Welcome!

My name is Sophia and I teach English as a Second Language.

And that can mean a lot of things. ESL is an extremely varied vocation. Even though I have only been teaching for 5 years, in that time I have taught English to European teenagers on holiday in the UK, Academic English to Engineering major students in China, beginner English to refugees, dissertation writing to postgraduate students in China, Creative writing to English major students in China not to mention teaching online, teaching one to one, teaching in massive lecture halls to 60+ students to teeny tiny classrooms with only 6 people.

All that in 5 years. And that’s not even all of it. There’s so much more!

It got to the point that I needed to start sharing my experience with others.

English Shinglish is about sharing my experience, advice and ideas. It’s about discussing the teaching experience as a whole with a slight bend towards ESL and the English Language. I write about teaching as a career, teaching in China as well as my thoughts on teaching English specifically.

If you’re a teacher, or even thinking about becoming a teacher, I’m sure you’ll find something useful here.
